STORY: How @AmericanAir Saved Christmas

This little ditty was written almost two years ago, at a time when I was the holder of elite status on various airlines and enjoying the myriad benefits given to those who held little plastic cards with airline logos on them. I've left those days behind and am pursuing the joys of a different kind of travel, but I did enjoy writing this post and it's very appropriate for the holiday season. So I figured I would transfer it over to this version of my blog and share it with the world again.

I hope you enjoy it, have a bit of a laugh, and enjoy a very Merry Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Holiday for yourself and yours.

Twas the month before Christmas, and all through my house, Came a weeping and wailing, from a sorry sad louse. I'd unpacked my trinkets and should have placed them with care, I'd misplaced my status card - it'd disappeared into thin air! I searched high and searched low, even under my bed, While visions of lounge dragons danced in my head. I hung my head low then used my fingers to snap, "I'll call the EXP desk! They're mighty fine chaps!" I stated my problem but she dismissed my chatter, "It's too late in the year, it's simply no matter!" Away from the phone I flew like a flash, Tore open my laptop and prayed for no crash. I directed to Twitter and started typing real slow, Double checking my message so I'd avoid saying "D'oh!" "My elite card is missing, @AmericanAir can you help! If I can't access lounges, I'll whine like a whelp." With a few magic keystrokes, so lively and quick, They came to my rescue, like some Super St. Nick. "Your status will be reflected on your boarding pass sir, but to get a card in December? The policy's a blur...." I knew all these things but couldn't explain, how in some partner lounges, your boarding pass is in vain. Oh Parker! Oh Horton! Oh Leibman and Rubin! I beseech you, don't leave me with no lounge to snooze in!

The days ticked by as the dry leaves took flight, and it was starting to look like there was no end in sight. Then there it was! An envelope so jaunty and bold, and I knew what it held was more precious than gold. I opened it up with caution and care, and just before looking, I whispered a prayer. Yes, sure enough, @AmericanAir had delivered! A shiny new elite card, I was so happy I shivered! I sprang to my computer and to this team gave a whistle, and fired off a message like the down of a thistle. So hear me exclaim, as I give thanks with all my might, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
